Job Description:

FULL-TIME FACULTY POSITION: DEVELOPMENTAL MATH: Department of Academic Preparation, (Division of Foundational Studies and Liberal Arts & Sciences). (MCCC/MTA Unit Position) Anticipated Start Date: September, 2012. Contingent on funding.

Teach developmental mathematics courses from Basic Math through Basic Algebra II and a new course called Mathematical Literacy for College Students. May teach some upper-level math courses. Additional responsibilities of the position involve: assist with the assessment and evaluation of developmental math students; assist with offering individualized lab-based math support services to students; collaborate with the Math Department on math curriculum and math course articulation; work to design, create, and deliver an innovative and comprehensive developmental math curriculum including e-learning courses and learning communities; participate as a member of the Department of Academic Preparation; advise students; maintain office hours; and participate in college service. Other related responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Dean.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree in Mathematics or in a related field with at least 18 hours of graduate-level mathematics coursework required. Clear evidence of 2 years of full-time community college, developmental math teaching experience (equivalent of 16 courses) required and must be included in the application package. Willingness and ability to work closely with colleagues and initiate collaborations with faculty from other disciplines to promote the integration of quantitative literacy in all programs at the college are a priority. Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching and excellent written and verbal skills required. Experience with integrating technology into the teaching of mathematics and computer literacy essential. Candidate must be flexible and able to respond to change. Demonstrated commitment to assisting educationally disadvantaged, first generation and bilingual college students essential
 

PREFERENCES:  Preference will be given to candidates with experience in designing and implementing curriculum that actively engages students in the learning of mathematics such as learning communities, collaborative learning, discovery-based learning, and writing, and that reflects the results of research to enhance student learning. Bicultural/Bilingual (Spanish and English).


Additional Information:

Salary: Anticipated starting salary range is $40,000.00 - $55,000.00 per academic year; complete fringe benefit package. Actual salary will be determined in accordance with classification determination of MCCC/MTA salary schedule commensurate with education and experience.
