Position Summary:
Client is looking for a Systems Support Engineer to join the IT
Infrastructure systems engineering team. The team is responsible for the
design, maintenance, security, recovery and support of their server
infrastructure consisting of over 1000 servers in multiple sites. The
person in this role will contribute to the ongoing development, improvement
and delivery of IT Infrastructure services provided to their business and
development teams as well as ensuring the overall stability and availability
of the logical and physical server environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Provide engineering and administrative support to Windows Server
OS, Server Hardware, Active Directory, CIFS file systems and Citrix XenApp
· Prioritize and respond to problems and incidents. Manage the
service ticket queue on a daily basis.
· Incorporate security, monitoring and metering requirements into
the Windows Server architecture. Ensure standardized configurations across
the environment.
· Improve and execute initiatives around OS provisioning and
configuration management
· Evaluate system performance and make recommendations for
improvement
· Participate in both Data Center and after-hours on-call rotations
· Develop, document and follow best practices and SOPs for:
o Monitoring & alerts
o Capacity planning
o Patch management
o Documentation
· Develop jobs and implement patches and configuration changes as
needed.
· Provide technical expertise to developers and business users
around best practices for use of supported products and integration into the
environment.
· Participate in and occasionally manage both individual and team
projects for various initiatives.
· Manage server and component hardware products in a data center
environment.
· Collaborate with team to continuously develop and improve server
and storage strategy
· Prepare reports for management as required
· Represent IT Infrastructure at various IT community and/or
business meetings
Required Skills and Competencies:
· 3-5 years of work experience in a similar environment – See

· Demonstrated high level of competence with analyzing, documenting,
troubleshooting, administering and evaluating: Windows Server, Active
Directory, CIFS file systems, Citrix XenApp. Knowledge and administration of
VMware ESX server and/or RHEL a plus.
· Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding
environment
· Demonstrated understanding and ease with IT operations and
workflow concepts, best practices, and SOPs
· High level of competence in process simplification and automation;
the ability to develop, document and implement new strategies and SOPs for
use within the team
· High level of competence with Windows scripting, both command and
vbscript. Powershell experience a plus.
· Experience managing servers in a Data Center environment.
· Self-direction; experience planning and accomplishing multiple
simultaneous projects and goals
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to work
effectively within a collaborative team and with a wide range of
constituencies in a diverse community
· Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
· Knowledge of financial business practices and procedures a plus
· Ability to promote a cooperative work environment
· Ability and willingness to perform occasional work on weekends and
after-hours
· Experience in a 24X7, Mission Critical Financial Services Firm
