Teaching Assistant / Arlington

At Germaine Lawrence, staff are valued team members dedicated to helping troubled girls rebuild their lives. A Teaching Assistant is responsible for assisting the teacher in providing educational and behavior management services to students in and out of the classroom. Teaching Assistants:
• Assist Teachers in planning and implementing daily lessons
• Monitor and manage behavior in the classroom
• Work with residents to develop pro-social behaviors
• Track student’s academic performance
• Transport residents to medical appointments on and off campus
• Provide classroom coverage when the teacher is absent
• Assist residents in daily living tasks
• Milieu (residential) coverage during wake-ups, school vacation periods, and as needed after school
• Provide crisis management support to milieu staff


Germaine Lawrence is highly committed to our staff’s professional and personal growth. All staff are provided with rich training and supervision to enhance their skills, and support their advancement in the agency. Each week several hours are dedicated to staff development, including in-service training, individual supervision, and on-floor coaching to provide the education and support needed to be a successful Teaching Assistant.

Our Teaching Assistants are an integral part of our teaching and therapy team. This is a full time position with full time benefits including generous time off and overtime provisions. We offer opportunities for rapid advancement and excellent benefits. Teaching Assistants work a Monday through Friday, 44 hour week, 12 months a year.

We look for candidates who are: team players; willing to learn and accept feedback; can tolerate stress; are confident; energetic; and, assertive. BA/BS degree required or an AS level degree with at least one year of relevant experience, i.e. in a special education or direct care environment. Experience in crisis intervention and setting boundaries/ limit skills preferred.
