Reporting to the Deputy Superintendent of Finance & Operations the payroll specialist is responsible for timely preparation, processing, and distribution of in-house payroll runs, performing related payroll functions such as garnishments, reconciliations, attendance verification, system testing, and problem resolution, and administering 403b and 457 plan requirements.
This position requires the ability to work based upon agreed procedures.
An exceptional customer service orientation and the ability to use and consolidate data and to organize and present information are also required.
The Payroll Specialist will interface with all levels of staff and interface with constituents in an open, friendly, and professional manner.
The Payroll Specialist will serve as a link between the Business Office and employees.
The Payroll Specialist must possess initiative, excellent communication and interpersonal skills that enable the efficient resolution of both internal and external concerns.
Candidate must have a high degree of accuracy and excellent time management skills, be a team player, and self-starter.
The successful candidate must be able to handle confidential information and work in an environment of constant deadlines.
Candidate must have a strong working knowledge of automated payroll applications and familiarity with Excel and Word. Familiarity with Unifund BudgetSense is a plus.
2-4 years of municipal payroll experience, or equivalent experience in business payroll is required, or an Associate's Degree, or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field will be considered in lieu of experience.
This is a 12 month position - Start Date: February 1, 2011
Hours: 40 hours a week, Monday - Friday
Salary Range: $18.67 - $25.06 which is a base salary of $38,834 - $52,125 depending on experience
